About the user experience - UX
The page experience signal measures elements of how users view the experience of engaging with a website. Optimising for these factors makes the web more enjoyable for users and assists websites evolve towards user expectations on mobile devices. We believe this will contribute to an organisations success online as users grow more engaged and can negotiate with less friction.
Core Web Vitals are a set of real-world, user-centred metrics that quantify essential aspects of the UX. They measure dimensions of web functionality such as load time, interactivity, and the stability of site as it loads (so you don't unintentionally tap that button when it shifts under your finger - how annoying!).
We combine the signals stemming from Core Web Vitals with our existing Search signals for page experience, consisting of mobile-friendliness, safe-browsing, HTTPS-security, and invasive standards, to provide a holistic picture of page experience. Due to the fact that when we continue to work on determining and measuring aspects of page experience, we plan to incorporate more page experience signals on an annual basis to both further align with developing user expectations and increase the aspects of user experience that we can measure.
Excellent page experiences allow it to be possible for visitors to get more done and engage more deeply; in contrast, a bad page experience might stand in the way of a visitor being able to discover the important information on a page. By including page experience to the hundreds of signals that Google considers when ranking search results, we aim to help visitors more easily access the information and websites looking for, and support website owners in providing an experience the user can enjoy.
For some designers, understanding how their websites measure the Core Web Vitals-- and resolve issues will need some work. Google Search Console provides a report to assist website owners to quickly identify opportunities for improvement.
While all of the elements of UX are essential, it is important to focus on pages with the best information overall, even if some elements of UX are not up to the same standard as lower-level pages.
